Property Accessibility Statement
The Mendenhall 1884 (Hovermale-Mendenhall House) is a Victorian home located in the Historic District of the town of Bath, WV. The structure complies with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) where possible. While the act does not require the property to provide accessible rooms in all situations due to its age and architectural significance, the proprietors are committed to doing what is economically feasible to accommodate the needs of our guests with disabilities while protecting the structural integrity of the home as required by the U.S. Department of Interior, administers of the National Registry of Historic Places.

Building information and accessibility aspects of note: This historic home was constructed in 1884 and is listed on the National Registry of Historic Places. The architecture and structural designs (including all brick exterior and interior walls) are highlights of the home, but may present some restrictions to certain guests depending on physical abilities. Two entrances to the home are available for all guests. A handicap ramp is located on the side porch adjacent to the private parking area. A second entry is located directly in front of the home, which has 6 stairs followed by a single step into the main foyer. Access to all indoor common areas, including the parlor, dining room, kitchen and first floor bath does not require the use of stairs. The home has 4 guest rooms on the second floor. Access to the second floor is made through a series of stairs and landings; 3 stairs to first landing, 3 stairs to second landing and 8 stairs to east wing and west wing guest rooms with narrow hallways. The home does not have an elevator or stair lift due to structural constraints. The guest accessible main areas of the house have doors 32 inches or greater in width; however certain features like narrow hallways and multiple room levels of the original building, may provide complications for wheelchair access.
