The Mendenhall 1884 Inn is a labor of love of Claire and Greg Schene, who have transformed the historic Clarence Hovermale House into a beautiful Bed and Breakfast Inn
“Some enchanting evening, when you find your true love”…and so it happened.
Two complete strangers, Claire Ramirez and Greg Schene found each other across a crowded room and started a love story that stretches from the Mendenhall Glacier in Alaska, to the stunning beauty of Lago di Como in Northern Italy, to the quaint mountain town of Berkeley Springs, West Virginia and ironically, to a historic home appropriately named after it’s first owner…Mendenhall. This historic home is a labor of love we look forward to sharing with each and every guest. The Mendenhall 1884 Inn Bed and Breakfast is ideally located in the center of the town of Bath and within a short stroll of the Berkeley Springs State Park, shops, galleries, spas and a variety of fine and casual dining options.
Boasting original hardwood flooring, blown glass windows, stain glass with the famous Mendenhall Irish Love Knot, newly renovated baths, a restored covered porch, private gardens and reserved off-street parking, the Mendenhall 1884 is a much sought after destination and a welcomed retreat from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. Please schedule your stay and join us in creating your special Berkeley Springs memory at the Mendenhall 1884 Inn.
We so look forward to hosting you and providing our special blend of service, kindness and gratitude that is uniquely…Mendenhall.

Claire and Greg are excellent hosts! They have spared no effort to make the Mendenhall 1884 an attractive, comfortable, and inviting inn, down to the smallest detail! Congenial, welcoming, and attentive, they make their guests feel pampered. The B&B is close to everything that draws people to Berkeley Springs. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and will be repeat guests – especially for Claire’s delicious breakfasts!

Claire and Greg are exquisite, gracious hosts who run the Mendenhall Inn, a beautifully restored historic house. They are kind people one can only hope to meet when traveling. Claire and Greg’s thoughtful care includes starting the day with deliciousness served for breakfast and helping select local places to enjoy. Many gorgeous rooms, reminiscent of a genteel time in history, embellished with modern amenities, made my stay an indulgence.

If there were MORE than 5 stars as a rating this B and B warrants it….This lovely historic home in the heart of Berkley Springs is one of the best guest experiences we’ve ever had. First, the hosts, Greg and Claire are truly the epitome of hospitality. Their friendly and welcoming faces greet you upon your arrival. We walked on to the porch and Greg greeted us warmly followed by sweet Claire. They truly have the hearts of servants. We spent a good amount of time on that porch getting to know them and parted with new friends! We also met some other wonderful guests. Greg and Claire were able to suggest some local businesses and events to visit which we appreciated. We were in town for our son’s wedding and Greg and Claire were gracious to family in town that stopped by the porch to meet us. Claire prepares delicious breakfast items, sourced as much as possible local and organic. They have paid incredible attention to detail and it shows. We stayed in the room called Bailey’s Bungalow. While small, it has a very comfortable queen bed (the bedding!) and small attached private bathroom. The air conditioning was kept at a perfect temperature. Out back there is a beautiful garden area. But THAT PORCH was our favorite, especially when set for breakfast. They set a lovely table and remember your coffee or tea preferences! We will never forget this experience and plan to stay there whenever we visit the area, hopefully every year.
